Micro vs. Macro

December 18, 2009

Okay, so my client can’t rent her property. Four units ALL vacant. What on earth is going on? She frantically wants to know. She gets someone in and they pay, then stop.

Well, as I spoke with her I began to see that her habit is similar to what I see when folds are in panic.

They start by realizing that they’ve got to get into action. Any action sending, resumes, posting on Craig’s list. Then they wait. They push and push and when they get a bite, they yank the line so hard the fish goes free.

Others run from pushy and desperate. Imagine the car salesman. Yeah, that’s right. Then the MACRO hits: the world is in trouble, the economy is bad, the jobless rate is at an all time high.
Then they drink the “new age” punch (yes, I said it…) and the micro begins: affirmations, focus, intention.
And they start to drill down into action.

None of this is in any way bad or wrong!

Desperation begins when we forget the most vital part of all this: Letting go!

Go live. Go for a walk, relax! Play with your kids, spouse, friends, pets. Change focus!

Things need cooking time.

Email is Over

Email is Over

And those who don’t get it are going to suffer in the coming year(s). Sorry, we are now entering a time when we all want to connect. This is a time when Internet marketers are really going to have to prove themselves – I can only say that as a person who has an internet business, I too am looking for legitimate ways to connect with my “tribe.”

And in my own world, I have made mistakes in my business… but just because you’re ignorant, that doesn’t mean you’re innocent! But just last week, one of my clients reported me for spamming him! I called him up laughing. He was embarrassed. We both agreed that we’re so overrun with people trying to enlarge parts of our bodies that are in fine working order, we’re lashing out everywhere! A few years ago it was road rage, now, it’s E-rage!

I mean let’s face it, I already have a few strikes against me… do you have any IDEA what it’s like to tell people at a party “I’m a psychic…” Ribs and jokes begin. There’s always a few folks who are worried for my soul. Me too, but not for the reasons they would think.

So where are we going? How can we connect? Easy, but crazy – ready? Beyond content, we have to offer what others want, not what we want to sell. I’m even getting bored with the idea of my own newsletter. Shouldn’t I be in constant honest contact with my tribe? I don’t want to sell anyone. I want people to buy because it moves them. The reason we bombard others with offers that are wonky is because of our fear… don’t you think?

We’re heading to Twitter and Facebook and Meet-up in droves. We want something that interests us, moves us and yes inspires us. We all want a purpose.

Spam laws are tightening now and I think in some ways they need to. We can’t do business anymore with the same folks giving us the same message.

YOU can… find love, find money… or have the life of your dreams if you make a commitment to it. However, this is about surrounding yourself with people who enrich, enlighten and inspire you. It is about finding other Highlanders. They’re out there. Hey, if you’ve read this far, YOU are one.

So we come back to the question: are email lists really valuable? I’m not buying it anymore. I have a few internet marketing friends, and one whispered to me a few weeks back that the “big lists” aren’t pulling anymore.

I’m not surprised. They’ve blanketed the market with false friendships. Desperation is what has followed gluttony, and it really feels like we’re all playing musical chairs with one chair left. But that’s not so.

The idea is that at the end of the day, we want people around us who like us, and we like. If we are sincere, that will shine through and customers will find us.

What is the answer?

I just think that email is dying as a sales aid, no matter what people say.

What say you?
